IntegrityBC disappointed in Throne Speech

Victoria, 12 February 2013) – Despite its 29 pages, today’s Speech from the Throne failed to put forward a single initiative towards helping restore the faith of British Columbians in their government.

Governing isn’t just about big promises such as the proposed B.C. Prosperity Fund, it’s also about commitments to accountability, transparency and integrity,” said IntegrityBC executive director Dermod Travis.

And not one word of today’s speech was dedicated to initiatives such as whistle-blower legislation or changes to the terms of officers of the Legislature. When citizens don’t have faith in the government keeping its word already, why would they ever buy into the idea that B.C. might eliminate the provincial sales tax through the Prosperity Fund as was hinted at in today’s speech.”
